Report on Meall Nan Tarmachan race weekend
Oct 30th, 2011 by admin
The second year of the Meall nan Tarmachan hill race took part on the 15th October with the weather forecast not looking great with strong winds, low cloud and light rain predicted, however 60 people still raced!
The start was wet and fast with Prasad Prasad and Al Anthony leading the pack. Visibility was poor on the tops with a few runners making a wrong turn just 100 metres from the summit, something we did not anticipate.
However, the wet and slippery descent was flagged so no more mishaps occured. The previous years race did have snow patches in places so records where expected to be broke.
Prasad Prasad easily broke the record with Al Anthony pipping in just on the right side of the record too. It was a close race for the ladies with Catriona Buchanan breaking the course record by just 5 seconds, with second place going to Elke Prasad.

Back in Killin a warm and filling lunch was put on by the Cancer Research commitee in Killin and I’m sure all runners were grateful. Many thanks to all of our distributors for prizes.
The ceilidh on Saturday was well attended with a lovely buffet and a well propped up bar. Siobhan Anderson and friends kept us dancing till late with all enjoying the great music. A large selection of raffle prizes were won and would like to thank everyone who gave a wide selection of gifts.
All in all, £1000 was raised for Cancer Research UK, which we would like to thank everyone for helping to reach.
Sron a Chlachain hill race on the Sunday
What I was calling the “fun run” to customers. The first year the race had been held, but the route is well known as it is the same route for the Killin Highland Games race.
Held on a far nicer day with warm sunshine and a light breeze, and unsurprisingly a good turnout of 36 runners. The ground was very wet and thus times were slower than the highland games.
