Some customers up from the Lakes had great ski touring conditions as you can see. Had to walk across the flat section had three runs from the top then skied nearly back to the car.Lucky them

A few people ask are there any good places to climb around Killin and it has to be said it ain’t easy to find out much information.

Glen Ogle and Weem Crags are the nearest rock climbing areas but they are mainly sport and bouldering with mainly hard, high-end routes.

In Winter there are a number of good crags and areas that make for some decent winter climbing. One area that I’ve been to is Cam Chreag on Meall Nan Tarmachan. Its a great little corrie that has a good number of easy grade routes.

One problem is finding where everything is, so I was quite made up when someone pointed out the following blog.

Cam Chreag topo

Please be aware that these crags are home to some very rare species of plants and trees so DO NOT go gardening. These crags are also mainly frozen turf and snow so please do wait for a good freeze before climbing on here.

We still have ex-hire canoes, kayaks and mountain bikes for sale at really good prices. Full details and prices on our website, or give us a phone on 01567 820652

Summer on Loch Tay

Monday 16th Jan.

Hills covered in low cloud / mist this morning after  freezing  temperatures overnight. The forecast predicts some rain in the next couple of days along with strong winds . However fresh snow on the hills is also likely, so don’t pack your skis away just yet ! At the moment there is still snow on the eastern slopes  for anyone who wants some winter walking/climbs .

River Lochay blockages

Please note that the blockage has now been removed. There is a great picture of the tree being removed in the Killin news.

After the recent stormy weather the River Lochay has been partially blocked by a fallen tree. The blockage is at the Black Bridge (old railway bridge) on the left hand side if heading downstream. Care should be taken.

Black Bridge Blockage looking downstream

Be aware there will be submerged branches along the river that have not been spotted yet. Please let us know of any further problems.

Blockage from above

With the mild weather we’ve been having the snow has been disappearing like- well- snaw aff a dyke ! Met. forecast suggests no major change for near future , so , saddle up those crampons, strap on the ice axe  and head for the hills before it’s all gone.  The road up to the Lawers visitor centre car park is ok at the moment, so  no excuses !

( For those of you who don’t care for snow & ice , a lot of lower level walks are now frost -free )

Still lots of snow in the gullies but unfortunately not enough for skiing.
